Northern Lite Campers may be the
ultimate road trip vehicle. Before we define a road trip vehicle, we ought to
define a road trip. A road trip is built around the supposition that “getting
there is half the fun”. The actual travel may be a boring slog on a road trip,
which is why it is best to have good company. Driving a truck with a camper in
the bed is not as much fun as tooling around in a responsive little car, but it
is a lot nicer than lugging a travel trailer or trying to pilot a whale sized
motor home.
The secret to a great road trip
is not so much the going or the destination, it is the stops along the way.
This is what makes traveling with an RV, especially a pick up camper, such a
great experience. Although the car is easier and faster to drive, when you stop
you are dependent on the locals for everything. The locals are usually happy to
see you, but they are even happier to see what you have in your wallet.
If you are hungry, they are
happy to sell you a snack or a meal. If you are tired, whip out the credit card
and rent a room. If you are thirsty, “spring water” can be yours for about a
buck a bottle. If you have a pick up camper, all you really need from the
locals is a place to park your rig. You have cold beverages in your
refrigerator, you can relax in your own bed, fix a tasty snack from your own
supplies, you can even do what bears do in the woods for free.
It would seem as though having
such an independent attitude would insulate you from the locals. It can if you
let it, but when you realize that there is more to your relations with the
locals than the exchange of money for products or services, both sides can
relax and enjoy each other's company.
This is especially true when the
route of your road trip takes you through small towns and villages. It is true
that you would not want to impose on anyone, but one of the friendliest things
you can do is to invite someone into your home. If you ask someone in a village
if you can park your Northern Lite Campers in their yard for the night, don't be
surprised if they invite you in for a
meal. The best part is that you can invite them into your home, your camper, for
dessert or a cocktail afterwards. The memories will last both of you a life
time.
